Celeste nodded. “Yep! He’s not worth it. His mom just stood there and watched you suffer without lifting a finger to help.”
Mia’s heart had turned to ice. She was done with the Kensington for good.
She wiped away her tears, her body still weak. She knew her condition was severe, but the medicine Celeste gave her worked wonders, better than anything she’d taken before.
“May I ask your name, miss?”
“Celeste.” She handed Mia a slip of paper with her phone number.
She wasn’t trying to be a saint; she just couldn’t stand seeing people mistreated.
Mia leaned against the wall, clutching the number tightly.
“Alright. I’ll look you up in six months. Could you do me a favor and call my dad, Connor Rodriguez? I want him to get me. They took my phone.”
Celeste pulled out her cell, asking Mia for the number.

As soon as she finished, Mia passed out.

Celeste held her up with one arm while dialing with the other.
“Hello?” A deep voice answered!
“Hi, is this Mia Rodriguez’s father?” Celeste asked.
“Yes, it is. Who’s this? How do you know my daughter? Where is she?”
Celeste said, “She’s in the Golden Hotel lounge. Her asthma flared up. She asked me to call you. She wants to go home. Don’t worry, I’ve given her some medication. She’s not in any danger.”
“Thank you, miss. Is this your number? I’m nearby. I’ll be there right away!”
“Great!” Celeste hung up and helped Mia sit up.
Mia slowly opened her eyes, tears streaming down her face. “Will my dad really come for me? I cut ties with him for that man. I must have broken his heart. Why would he come?”
She remembered her dad’s pained voice as she stormed out. “Mia, that man’s no good for you. If you ever get tired, come home. Mom and Dad wi.. always love you.”

“I thought they were being fake. If they really loved me, why
wouldn’t they let me be with the man I loved?

“When I left, my sister only asked one thing… not to tell Travis about our family’s actual situation. I guess she knew I wouldn’t find happiness.”
Mia laughed bitterly. “They say love makes women stupid. As outsiders, my parents saw things clearer than I did.”
Celeste was glad to see Mia coming to her senses. Better late than never.
“It’s good you’re seeing things clearly now. Your dad said he’s
nearby and coming to get you. Let’s head downstairs.”
Mia smiled gratefully. “Okay. I’m so tired. I just want to sleep. I’ve barely slept in three days.”
She only caught a few hours of sleep in the past three days, working on a handmade birthday gift for her husband.
“Just hang on a bit longer. We’ll be down in a few minutes. I’ll get you to the roadside to wait. Once you’re home, you can rest properly.”
“Okay!” Mia struggled to keep her eyes open. She missed her parents so much.

But the darkness was too intense. Mia leaned on her shoulder and drifted off.
Celeste took a deep breath, about to set her down to wait for her father.
“Oh, my goodness! Murder! It’s murder!” Melinda came running with a group of people. Seeing Mia supported by Celeste, she instantly changed her mind, deciding to pin the blame on Celeste. This way, Mia’s death would have nothing to do with the Kensington family.
Celeste’s red lips tightened, and her icy gaze fell on Melinda’s face. “Madam…”
Travis angrily stepped in front of Celeste. “Who the hell are you? Why did you kill my cousin?”
