Book 2: Chapter2
His expression turned awkward for a moment, but a few seconds
later, he put on a confident look again.
He fumbled in his bag for a while before finally pulling out a used
lipstick and shoving it into my hand.
“How could I forget your birthday? I was just getting you a surprise.”
“Look at this lipstick I bought for you. I had to go to several stores to
find this shade.”
I looked at his ears closely, and as I expected, they twitched slightly–his tell when he lies.
He hadn’t even noticed, but I’d seen this little gesture countless times

He made it sound like it was my fault, but as he picked up the lipstick, the cap accidentally popped off.
I glanced at it and noticed that part of the lipstick was missing–clearly used. And there, on the side of Lucas’s neck, was a pink lipnt, matching the lipstick’s shade.
He hadn’t noticed at all. I could almost imagine Ava leaving that suggestive mark on his neck.
My heart, which had already gone numb, twisted in pain again, making me feel nauseous.
I didn’t want to witness this farce anymore, so I turned to leave.
The icy pain in my heart returned as I squinted my eyes and turned to walk away.
Lucas, carefully picking up the cap that had fallen, pretended to angrily scold the nonexistent salesperson.
“Babe, don’t be mad. It’s all the salesperson’s fault. How could they sell me a used lipstick?”
“You look so ugly with that cold face. Come on, smile for me, babe.”
He tried to grab my arm as I walked away, but I took a step back, avoiding his hand.
