Book 2: Chapter6
Maybe she was worried I wouldn’t believe her, or maybe she just wanted to protect
- me.
The nurse immediately pulled out her phone to prove it, playing the
call where she
tried to contact Lucas.
As soon as the call connected, I heard the woman’s tearful, pleading
voice.
“Please don’t go, Mr. Evans. I’m so scared!”
Lucas soothed her with a few soft words before replying impatiently.
“Pregnant with my child? Ha, like it’s that easy to get pregnant with my baby! It’s
probably some bastard’s kid!”
“I knew it! You all must be in on this with that witch, trying to trick me. into coming
home! You’re all crazy!”

An emergency? She’s not dead yet, is she? Call me when she’s dead,
and I’ll come to
take her straight to the crematorium!”
Each word felt like a knife stabbing into my heart, leaving me raw and
bleeding.
In the past, I might have defended myself, clinging to some shred of dignity.
But now, I couldn’t keep lying to myself.
The nurse had never thought Lucas was a caring husband, especially
after he
neglected me during my fertility treatments.
But every time, to cover up my sadness and maintain Lucas’s image, I
would lie and
say that my husband treated me well at home, that he was just too busy.

But now, Lucas’s a slap in the face.
After Dr. Wright cleared his throat, the nurse realized she had crossed

quickly apologized.
“I’m sorry, Eva. I didn’t mean to…”
Then, with righteous anger, she continued, “But how could I not be
mad? He’s
despicable! You’re lying here in the hospital, and he doesn’t even
care!”
“Not only that, but I saw him with his mistress downstairs, getting her
checked out in
the OB/GYN department. He doesn’t care about you at all!”
I staggered as I tried to get up, nearly fainting, but I grabbed her wrist and pleaded.
“Please, take me to see them.”
Her eyes filled with sympathy, but she helped me up.
Dr. Wright sighed heavily and cursed under his breath before walking
away.
Soon, the nurse led me to the obstetrics department.
Just as we arrived, Lucas was helping Ava out of the exam room. I quickly ducked into
the hallway with the nurse.

Seeing me hide, she was furious and whispered angrily.
“Eva, are you just going to let those two get away with this?”
“Should I go out there and smack them both?”
1 quickly took out my phone, snapping photos while holding her trembling wrist,
calmly replying.
“Isn’t this the best evidence of his affair?”
“Don’t hit them. If they run, how will I get the photos?”
The nurse held back her anger for a moment before giving me a
thumbs–up.
“Now I see why you’re the smart one! This is a brilliant move!”
I snapped photo after photo, and then the nurse walked out.
She tightened her mask and pretended to call out to Lucas.
“Are you the patient’s husband? You need to go pay the bill at the
front.”
Her tone was slightly impatient, not giving Lucas any reason to suspect anything.
Ava clung to Lucas, shyly calling him “honey.”

That made Lucas beam with pride. He leaned close to Ava’s ear and whispered with a
gentle smile, “Thank you, Ava, for carrying my little baby.”
I took the photos without a word and immediately contacted a divorce
lawyer.
I sent him all the screenshots of Ava’s taunting messages and the photos I had just
taken.
Just as I turned to leave, I collided with someone coming up behind me, falling to the
ground.
Pain surged through my abdomen, cold sweat breaking out as I tried
to get up. Lucas
spotted me from a distance.
He shouted, “Eva, why are you in a hospital gown? Does this mean…?”
My heart pounded furiously for several seconds.
The answer was right there…
