Book 2: Chapter7
Just when I thought Lucas might finally realize that we had lost our
child, he let out a
cold laugh and accused me first.
“Hah, you’re faking an illness just to follow me around? You really
have no shame!”
Suppressing my anger, I shot back sarcastically, “I’m not as free as you
are, escorting
your employee to her prenatal checkups. Don’t tell me the baby she’s
carrying is
yours?”
It was only then that Lucas realized he was still holding Ava. He quickly let go of her,
then, as if trying to cover his tracks, added, “It’s a boss’s duty to care
for their
employees. Not everyone is as cold and heartless as you!”
I couldn’t be bothered with his lies, so I gritted my teeth, got up, and started to leave
this unpleasant scene.
But before I could, he suddenly grabbed my wrist, looking me over.
“You… you’re not actually sick, are you?”
I knew how haggard and pathetic I looked at that moment.
I also knew I could have screamed at him, demand…g why he didn’t
care about our
child.
But my heart was already dead. There was no need to be honest with
him anymore.
I coldly shook off his hand, which only made him curse at me more.
furiously.
“Crazy woman, keep pretending. Like I care whether you live or die!”
Then, with Ava flauntingly on his arm, he left.
During the few days I spent in the hospital, he didn’t check on me
once.
When I was finally well enough to be discharged, I went home.
As soon as I arrived, Lucas was about to head out.
Seeing my worn–out appearance, he suddenly decided to be

magnanimous and
apologized in a soft voice.
“I’ve been thinking these past few days. Maybe I was a bit too harsh, but you weren’t
completely innocent either, right?”
I ignored him and started to head upstairs to pack my things.
Seeing what I was doing, he got angry and kicked my suitcase aside.
He then shoved me hard, causing me to hit my still–healing waist and
abdomen.
“I’ve already apologized, and you’re still making a scene? Are you planning on
running away from home?”
For six years, I had always backed down, but this time, I didn’t.
Holding my aching waist, I stood up and looked at him with a steady
gaze.
“Lucas, let’s get a divorce.” My voice was cold as ice.
Lucas eyed me, then gave a strange, dismissive smile.
“After all this time, I never blamed you for not being able to carry my

child!”
“And now you have the nerve to talk about divorce? I’ve told you, Ava
and I are
innocent!”
“Stop making such a big deal out of nothing. Eva. You’re rea..y no fun
at all!”
The sight of his disgusting face made me sick, so I used all my strength to slap him.
“If you two are so innocent, then whose child is she carrying?”
“I’ve never heard of anyone getting pregnant without physical
contact!”
My words cut through him like a cold blade, piercing his heart.
His eyes flickered, and he took a step back, but he still tried to justify himself.
“You’ve been following me? Whatever, I’m not going to argue with you.”
“But Ava’s child, it has to be raised under your name!”
