Book 3: Chapter 11
This is what happens when you dig your own grave.
Alexander let out a cold laugh.
“Regretting your decision now, aren’t you?”
“How about getting down on your knees and begging me?”
“Sure, I can’t give you the title of Mrs. Carter anymore, but since you stuck by me
through some rough times, I could offer you a job as my secretary.”
“I’d visit your place a few times a month, of course.”
“And naturally, you’d have to be a proper mistress and take good care of me.”
His words made me clench my fists.
た
“It’s been a while, but your mouth is even filthier than I remember.”
“Just like people say–you’re like a snake, always slithering back to the same dirt.”
Alexander’s face twisted in anger.

I continued, “I’d never sink so low as to become someone’s mistress.”
“In fact, let me give you a piece of advice: keep your eyes wide open. Don’t come
crying to me later.”
“Because once a snake, always a snake.”
With that, I hung up the phone.
Alexander kept trying to pull me back in, hoping to make me regret leaving him.
He was furious that I had dared to divorce him instead of begging him to stay–his
ego couldn’t handle it.
But I couldn’t care less. I blocked his number and threw myself into my work.
Soon, the networking product I’d developed with my business partners caught the
attention of a well–known Silicon Valley company.
They saw the potential and invested $10 million in us.
Our project took off internationally and began gaining traction at home as well.

When we launched, it was an instant hit.
The platform made shopping easier and more accessible, quickly replacing traditional
methods.
Millions of people downloaded our app, and our company
skyrocketed, becoming a
highly valued unicorn.
We were all making a fortune.
Meanwhile, Carter Enterprises was collapsing.
Alexander had miscalculated.
He’d been tricked by his “one true love,” Emily Lane, and ended up falling into a
Ponzi scheme.
This led to a complete breakdown of the company’s finances.
Emily took off with the money and fled the country, only to be caught by police at
the airport.

But the money was long gone, wired overseas and never to be

recovered.
Emily was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Carter Enterprises had no choice but to declare bankruptcy.
Alexander became a debtor with nothing left, unable to even find a job.
Forced by financial pressure, he ended up having to sell goods on the
street.
The next time I saw him, he was on his knees in front of my car, watching me step
into my BMW, begging for forgiveness.
“Emma, I know I was wrong! I’m a fool! Please, forgive me! I can’t live without you!”
As he spoke, he slapped his face, trying to gain sympathy.
My driver couldn’t help but laugh.
“Ms. Shaw, you have 18–year–old models begging to be your sugar babies. And you
think this guy stands a chance?”
Alexander’s face turned beet red in embarrassment.

“How pathetic,” I said, leaning out of the window. “Weren’t you the
one who said
you hated gold–digging women? That you’d never regret anything?”
He lowered his head, stammering.
“Emma, I… I know I was wrong. Please… forgive me…”
“Forgive you? In your dreams!”
I rolled up the window and told my driver to leave.
The best decision I ever made was cutting ties with him.
I deserve love, and I’m ready for a future filled with it.
